Hubby and I had an awesome weekend on the Gold Coast just gone to celebrate my 29th birthday! We enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Bazaar, the restaurant located inside QT Gold Coast, a whole lot of shopping at Harbour Town, Pacific Fair and Brisbane DFO, explored Sea World, ate and drank in true cowboy style at The Outback Spectacular and enjoyed the yummiest dessert ever at Max Brenner. It was a massive weekend of eating too much naughty food and spending way too much money on fun things but it was totally worth it!

Unfortunately, I really experienced how bad my stiffness and joint pain gets when I eat too much sugar and starch! After dinner on the Friday night it was really all downhill from there which drives the point home that I really need to obey doctors orders and cut out those things from my diet… at least until my drugs start working. So, back to reality and the healthy diet today.

Anyway, I really would recommend all the above activities if you ever visiting the Gold Coast. The only thing I probably wouldn’t do again would be the Outback Spectacular, we had a great time but it’s not really the best value for money… my hot tip there is that if you are visiting one of the theme parks, they offer discounted $65 tickets (instead of the $120 full price tickets). We inquired about this deal and was told that these cheaper tickets were ‘restricted viewing’ so we walked away and about 30mins later we got a phone call saying we could have regular unrestricted seating for the same price! Winner! 🙂

Oh, I almost forgot! We also saw an Aussie star couple! Michelle Bridges and Commando happened to be staying in our hotel on the Saturday night. We saw them enter the lift we were coming out of and again at breakfast time on Sunday morning! Michelle looked super buff as always and commando just looked ripped! They were also so nice to the people that came up to them… I was too chicken! ha ha

So, I’ve got Spondyloarthritis…

I visited Coast Joint Care about a week ago in Maroochy Waters on the Sunshine Coast, QLD and he has diagnosed me with Spondyloarthritis. This condition is classified as arthritis that affects the spine but in reality affect joints throughout the body. I’m feeling a little more positive since I now know what is going on with my body but I am still frustrated that I can’t exercise and have trouble even enjoying the weekends with my husband because of the fatigue that comes along with the disease. YAY for afternoon naps though! 😉

I have been put on 2 drugs, Celebrex, a strong anti-inflammatory and Sulfasalazine which was described by my specialist as an aspirin that doesn’t thin the blood and an anti-biotic that doesn’t kill bacteria! Essentially this drug does nothing but for reasons that the medical community can’t figure out, this drug apparently works on arthritis. I have been told that this drug should take between 6-12 weeks to start working, I’ve just finished week 1 so I’m still yet to see any improvement.

If anyone is interested, at present I have a number of aliments… this includes a constant sore back, which varies between upper back, middle of the back and neck, a swollen and very sore right foot, intermittent joint pain in my right knee and ankle and a constant stiff and sore jaw joint/muscles. This last one is especially annoying as I am extremely limited in what I can eat – at present I’m only eating porridge for breakfast, soups for lunch and softer dinner foods like mince and boiled sausages in onion gravy with steamed veges (to make them soft). I really could deal with all the other pain other than the jaw and swollen foot but hopefully these new drugs will kick in and start to make a difference soon.

ImageOn a lighter note, I am off to the Gold Coast this weekend with hubby. It’s a belated birthday present to me, I plan on some major retail therapy and hopefully spending a day at Sea World if my fatigue doesn’t take over first! We are staying at a hotel called QT… it is our favourite place to stay on the Gold Coast and has an awesome restaurant called Bazaar. I am really looking forward to it.

12WBT Finish & Auto-Immune Arthritis

Well, 12WBT wrapped up yesterday and I have really learnt a lot from the experience. I think I have really made a difference to my eating habits and I really enjoyed the exercise on the program. Unfortunately, I really fell off the wagon around about Week 8. My parents were involved in a house fire, thank god they were both ok but unfortunately the house didn’t fair as well against the fire. This has resulted in them living with my hubby and I for the next year or so until they can demolish their old house and build a new one. So, all my nutrition and exercise went out the window as I tried to deal with all these changes.

To make matters worse I started to get an extremely sore back and shoulders around this time as well. After x-rays and blood tests my local GP seems to think I may have Auto-Immune Arthritis. The disease since then has spread and now affects my right foot, right knee, right hand and jaw joints. So, that means I’m walking around in a moon boot, can’t eat anything remotely crunchy or chewy and I’m walking around like a crippled old person because my whole body in general is stiff and sore. I am booked in to see a specialist in May so I really hope they can help me try to deal with these symptoms. This has really affected my exercise… during 12WBT I was doing over an hour of exercise everyday but now I’m doing nothing. It gets really quite depressing at times but with the help of my hubby I’ve managed to push through.

So anyway, I’m sorry for the depressing post… I just thought I should catch up and fill in what I have missed on the blog. If anyone has any suggestions on dealing with my symptoms I would absolutely love to hear them! Have an awesome week everyone!

12WBT: Week 4

Hello, hello!

Wow, how time flies! Week 4 of 12WBT is already upon us! And I think I’m going ok so far. I think I’ve only missed 1 workout and been pretty good with my food. (I’m still craving sweet foods after dinner though… I think it is ingrained in my DNA! ha ha) My loss for Week 3 was a little less than I would’ve liked but I did have a major red flag weekend so any loss at all is awesome I reckon!

Weigh in day for Week 4 is tomorrow (Wednesday) and I’m a little excited as I do feel smaller than I was. I just hope the number on the scales reflects how I am feeling! 🙂 We also have to redo our fitness test and take all our measurements. Wish me luck!

12WBT Chilli Beef

My 12WBT Chilli Beef – Nachos minus the naughty bits!

Last night’s dinner was pretty yum… it was called Chilli Beef but it was more like nachos without the chips, cheese, sour cream or guacamole! However, hubby did make his into nachos… I was only little jealous… ok, a lot jealous! ha ha I definitely recommend this one to any 12WBTer’s out there. I’ve vowed to have it as my treat meal on the weekend with a few nacho additions. 🙂

Exercise wise I’ve been going ok. I’ve been following either the workout videos or the workout plan. The super Saturday sessions are absolutely killing me but I get the best sense of accomplishment when I’ve finished them! And I get to reward myself with a yummy breakfast afterwards as well! 🙂 Saturday just gone I had Banana French Toast… did I mention I love this diet!? ha ha

Anyway, I’m off to finish my herbal tea!

Red Flag Weekend – Argh!

Hi all,

I’m a little sad today as I won’t be able to follow my prescribed 12WBT meal & exercise plan this weekend. 😦 One of my hubby’s good friends is getting married in Sydney so we have to fly down there and stay with his parents for 2 nights/3 days. Can you say MAJOR RED FLAG weekend! I’m sort of upset about this as I’ve been going so well so far with the exercise and eating. I am yet to miss a workout and have been making excellent food choices for the last 2 weeks.

The sad thing is that I know temptation is my major weakness. If I see someone else eating it, I want it… or if I’m not in total control of my food I will make bad choices (eating out at restaurants etc). I just really wanted to stay away from these situations especially in the first two weeks of 12WBT when I know I’ll be at my weakest. But, I’m going to try and keep positive and utilize the park down the road from the in-laws place to do my Friday and Super Saturday sessions. I even signed up for a free 3 day pass at a gym nearby but unfortunately they are yet to send it through and I leave early tomorrow morning. 😦

Anyway, I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and smash your super Saturday sessions!

My 1st Weekend on 12WBT

Hi everyone,

It’s Monday morning and I’m feeling very sore and sorry for myself. I completed the Super Saturday Workout session on Saturday morning and my goodness I’m feeling it! Those 5 rounds of 150 skips were an absolute killer! I ended up burning around 940 calories in the session which felt awesome… not feeling so awesome about it now though. Which has also flowed through to this morning’s workout. I did a half arse effort but still managed to burn around 615 calories. Hopefully my outlook will brighten slightly as the week progresses…

Food wise was pretty good… sorta…

After the workout from hell I chowed down on Poached Maple Cinnamon Peaches with French Toast for breakfast, which was sort of my reward. It was very yum, although the poaching the peaches made them go a little soggy which I wasn’t really a fan of.

After breakfast we headed out and did a big grocery shop for next week. I was supposed to have ‘leftovers’ for lunch but we were too afraid to eat anything from the fridge in case we ate something we needed later in the week. Instead we headed out to our local Hervey Bay Boat Club and I had a chicken and avocado filo with salad. I think I ate too much but I tried to pick something mostly healthy considering my treat meal was at dinner time.

goodysTreat meal time! Yay! Hubby and I ended up heading out to a local restaurant called Goody’s On The Beach in Toogoom. Was very nice despite the rainy weather. We shared a special entree of sundried tomato and fetta brushetta. For main I had the Chicken, Mushroom & Tarragon Pie, which was HUGE and very nice and fresh! I thoroughly enjoyed it however I was a little upset that I didn’t get the vegetables that was supposed to come with it. Instead it came with a mountain-load of fries which I avoided like the plague! (I was a good girl!) 🙂

Breakfast on Sunday was an awesome Big Sunday Breakkie! It was essentially eggs, big field mushrooms with a beautiful tomato and avocado salsa. Yum yum! I was a little jealous of my husband’s bacon and hashbrown, though! 

The rest of Sunday however was a right off! 😦 We were supposed to have a mango chicken salad for lunch but when I went to make it the mango was over-ripe and yucky! So I ended up with a plate of green grapes, a red apple and 2 celery sticks with peanut butter for lunch.

Dinner was supposed to be Indian Fish which I was looking forward to… when I went to make that we had run out of eggs because hubby had decided to have egg and bacon sandwiches for lunch! ARGH! I planned and still failed! Luckily I was making a batch of Beef and Red Wine Stew for lunches this week so I had a serving of that instead. Phew! Crisis averted! ha ha

So, that was my first weekend on 12wbt. Next weekend is going to look A LOT different. I am off to Sydney from Friday to Sunday to attend a friends wedding… can anyone say RED FLAG weekend! Argh! Wish me luck… its going to be a challenge! Have a good week everyone! 😉

12WBT: Day 3

So, I’m still hanging on to this Michelle Bridges diet so far… completed Day 3 successfully. Hooray!

Calories Burnt - Day 3Morning workout was called Hit Me With Your Best Shot which I really enjoyed. It was pretty much a boxing class and having never done one before I was really surprised how much fun it was. 🙂 Will definitely be keeping that one in mind for future cardio workouts. And I also managed to smash 700 cals! SCORE! 😀

Breakfast was supposed to be Apple & Ricotta Toast but I did a bit of a switcheroo and changed it to the Bircher Muesli since the other half of my green apple was going a little brown in the fridge since Monday morning. Enjoyed this breakfast again like Monday. I think it might become a regular breakky for me.

On the menu for lunch was Beetroot Tzatziki, Tabbouleh & Rare Roast Beef Wrap…. yeah not a fan. I prepared it from the instructions and I ended up with way too much filling and it just refused to fit in my wrap… problem 1. Problem 2 was simply that I don’t really like tabbouleh that much… but I thought maybe I’ll give it another go since I hadn’t had it for a while…. yeah, that didn’t work out so well. ha ha So lunch was a bit of a fail… but I ate it anyway. I think I will need to embrace this customizing the meal plan next week!

Dinner on the other hand was pretty tasty…Summery Lemon Honey & Rosemary Chicken was on the menu. It took a long time to prepare but it was pretty worth it in the end. The only thing I would have changed was the rocket…. there was a lot… like A LOT! ha ha I think next time I will switch it for baby spinach leaves or iceberg instead. I’m just not a fan of that peppery taste.

Well, that’s the wrap up for Day 3… I’m halfway through day 4 and today has been a bit of a challenge. I’ve managed to burn my toast for breakfast, cut my finger and I am even a bit disappointed with my morning workout as it was raining and I couldn’t take my big golden retriever puppy for a walk! 😦 Poor thing! Hopefully it stops raining so I can take him for a walk tonight instead. It’s funny… I always start my day walking him and if I don’t my day always goes haywire! ha ha
